Colts Disappoint In Opener

The Indianapolis Colts had high expectations heading into the 2020 season. They got stronger on both sides of the ball. This is most likely the best team Chris Ballard has put together in Indy. The Colts traveled to Jacksonville for their first game of the season. This is was the only game on Sunday that was allowed to have fans in the stands. Jacksonville was last place in a lot of NFL preseason power rankings. On top of that they released their franchise running back just 2 weeks before the season started. It seemed like the Colts would dominate the game from the very beginning.

The first drive went like everyone expected. The Colts drove quickly right down the field with a beautiful mix of run and pass. In the Colts second drive they went right down the field again but were forced into a fourth and short in the redzone. Frank Riech made the decision to go for it and the Colts fell short, turning the ball over on downs.

The momentum was on the Jaguars side and the Colts could never get it back. The mistakes piled up and the Colts found themselves trailing by 7 with 2 minutes to go.

This is why Indy brought Phillip Rivers in. To lead these kinds of drives late in the game. The Colts moved the ball down the field and put themselves in position to tie the game, potentially forcing overtime. The Colts were faced with a fourth down and a dropped ball by TY Hilton would end the game for Indianapolis. A disappointing end to a disappointing game.

The Colts will return to Indianapolis for their second game of the season. They will host the Minnesota Vikings with 2,500 fans in the stands at Lucas Oil Stadium.
